150 Year Anniversary for St Georges Park

My friend Alan, who is probably one of the most passionate Port Elizabethans, has had his nose in the books and discovered that our magnificent St Georges Park celebrates 150 years of existence on the 6th August 2011.

He has also posed a question viz. how do we celebrate this historical milestone?

I wonder what ideas might be generated by interested people as to how we should suitably commemorate this momentous occasion. For more information view the article on MyPE.

I am having great fun reading Port Elizabeth in Bygone Days written by JJ Redgrave and published in 1947.

As fortune would have it I came across an entry on page 283 detailing the opening ceremony of St Georges Park on 6 August 1861. 6 August used to be marked as Prince Alfred’s Day.

Read more about St Georges Park on the excellent St Georges Park History Web Site by Debbie Derry and Ivor Markman.

Tell us what you think WE SHOULD DO to mark the 150th Anniversary of the opening of St Georges Park in this forum topic: St Georges Park’s 150th Anniversary.

Bridgestone Production Cars – Aldo Scribante 1 May 2010

BRIDGESTONE PRODUCTION CARS TO SIZZLE IN PE

2010 is panning out to be a spectacular season for the Bridgestone Production Car Championship. Although the entries are a bit down from previous years, the racing is more action packed than ever and much of the same is expected at Aldo Scribante (PE) on 1 May.

Following the postponement of the Phakisa event, round three of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship will take place in Port Elizabeth on 1 May 2010 and Audi Motorsport will be looking to maximize their home ground advantage.

The 2009 outing to Aldo Scribante yielded very favourable results for Audi Motorsport with the three times Class A champions taking a race win and four podium finishes.

Audi Motorsport’s 2010 driver line-up includes three multiple South African Champions, two of whom reside in the Mandela Metropolitan.
A “double points” victory at Killarney a month ago has given Johan Fourie and his IndyOil crew the boost that they needed to get back into the Bridgestone Production Car Championship fight. The team will hoping that their Cape Town success will be repeated in Port Elizabeth on 1 May 2010.

Aldo Scribante is Johan’s home away from home. Whilst he resides in Cape Town, his racing team is based in PE. The team does a fair amount of testing at the tight and twisty circuit and this is clearly evident in their race results. Johan has achieved three podium finishes in the last four races held at Aldo Scribante.

Be sure not to miss the action on Saturday 1 May 2010.

Visit the Bridgestone Production Cars Media site - flick “click” the Regs switch to obtain a copy of the Time Table for Saturday.
