Biltong Festival 2010 – Somerset East
CASTLE LAGER EAST CAPE BILTONG FESTIVAL / FEES 16 – 17 JULY 2010
The Blue Crane Route Municipality has hosted this incredible event, celebrating Karoo food, especially Biltong, and the Karoo way of life since it was initiated in 1991 by the Swaershoek Farmers’ Union, and the local Chamber of Commerce.
The Biltong Festival / Fees is presented by the Blue Crane Route Municipality, and made possible by the generous sponsorship provided by Castle Lager.
The event takes place at the Somerset East showgrounds.
As with the previous Biltong Festivals, this one promises to be a great success, luring festival goers from far and wide with the promise of great music, to suit all tastes; over 300 stalls, and the opportunity to party long into the night, in the Castle Lager Beer tent and the Bokjol!
The stalls will be selling a variety of products: but especially kudu in all its forms – Kudu burgers, Kudu wors and, of course, Kudu Biltong

Bridgestone Production Cars – Aldo Scribante 1 May 2010
BRIDGESTONE PRODUCTION CARS TO SIZZLE IN PE
2010 is panning out to be a spectacular season for the Bridgestone Production Car Championship. Although the entries are a bit down from previous years, the racing is more action packed than ever and much of the same is expected at Aldo Scribante (PE) on 1 May.
Following the postponement of the Phakisa event, round three of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship will take place in Port Elizabeth on 1 May 2010 and Audi Motorsport will be looking to maximize their home ground advantage.
The 2009 outing to Aldo Scribante yielded very favourable results for Audi Motorsport with the three times Class A champions taking a race win and four podium finishes.
Audi Motorsport’s 2010 driver line-up includes three multiple South African Champions, two of whom reside in the Mandela Metropolitan.
A “double points” victory at Killarney a month ago has given Johan Fourie and his IndyOil crew the boost that they needed to get back into the Bridgestone Production Car Championship fight. The team will hoping that their Cape Town success will be repeated in Port Elizabeth on 1 May 2010.
Aldo Scribante is Johan’s home away from home. Whilst he resides in Cape Town, his racing team is based in PE. The team does a fair amount of testing at the tight and twisty circuit and this is clearly evident in their race results. Johan has achieved three podium finishes in the last four races held at Aldo Scribante.
Be sure not to miss the action on Saturday 1 May 2010.

The 2010 SPAR Redhouse River Mile, Africa’s oldest open water swimming event, which is taking place over the weekend of 27/28 February is being moved to Cannonville on the Sundays River due to dangerously high levels of pollution in the Swartkops River.
Started in 1924, the event is celebrating its 86th anniversary and organisers, Zports, have indicated that the change in venue will not affect their ability to host another world class event, with the 2010 event carrying the highest prize money ever for the River Mile.
Over R26,000 in cash will be up for grabs over the weekend as well as medals, free hydration drinks and lucky draw prizes which include 4 Vuka Scuta motor bikes.
South African Olympian Chad Ho has confirmed that he will be coming to defend the title he won last year but is expecting strong local competition from Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series leaders Frank Greeff and Chris van de Sande. Ladies defending champion, Dominique Dryding, from the Western Cape has also confirmed that she will be at the River Mile at the end of Febuary.
The program of events scheduled for Sunday’s River will kick offon Saturday morning with the Discovery off-roader, an off-road triathlon style event which has been established to raise funds for various projects run by the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise. Visitors to the event will be entertained in the Castle Lite Beer Garden and many vendors will be at the event to supply eats.
Sunday’s program kicks off at 12 noon with the Nando’s kids preliminary 10 and under and 12 and under swim races across the river. This will be followed by a celebrity Swim Challenge where the winner will get R1000 cash to donate to a charity of their choice, the Ladies Mile will be at 13h30 and the finale, the Men’s Mile starts at 14h30.
